Sonanadi Sanctuary is spread over 301.18 sq.km. of Shivalik Terai province. Gold panning is carried out in the river in early times. The perennial streams of this sanctuary are the Palain and the Mandal. This area is carved out of Kalagarh Forest Division and became a part of the Corbett Tiger Reserve in 1991. The forests of Sonanadi are covered with Sal and rich Bamboo clusters.
Sonanadi Zone comes under Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary which is a part of Corbett Tiger Reserve. In this zone, tourists can walk on foot but need to be aware of non-venomous snakes. This area is a house for about 600 types of migratory and resident birds. The different types of birds that are seen in this area are Thrushes, Pheasants, Hornbills, Warblers, Flycatchers, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Wall Creeper, Emerald Dove, Himalayan Bearded Vulture, Falcon, Brown Fish Owl, and many others.
The animals that are seen in this sanctuary are Leopard, Cheetal, Barking Deer, Porcupine, Sambhar, Yellow-Throated Marten, Goral, Otter, and Sloth Bear. A large variety of reptiles like Python, Monitor Lizard, King Cobra, Different types of Turtles, Gharials, Mahaseer, Mugger, and Indian Trout are also seen in this area.
